American families are looking at our educational system from a new vantage point partially due to the easy access to alternative views on education on the internet. Check out some interesting sites.
Sudbury Valley School was the inspiration for Sunset Sudbury School as well as for dozens of other schools and institutions. Their site includes articles, books, a list of Sudbury Schools around the world and information on the theory and practice of this educational model.
Education Revolution is the website for the Alternative Education Resource Organization (AERO). It is a non-profit organization founded in 1989 by education expert Jerry Mintz to advance learner-centered approaches to education. AERO is considered by many to be the primary hub of communications and support for educational alternatives around the world.
Institute for Democratic Education in America (IDEA) is an emerging national nonprofit organization whose mission is to ensure that all young people can participate meaningfully in their education and gain the tools to build a just, democratic, and sustainable world. IDEA envisions an educational system based on respect for human rights and values of freedom and responsibility, participation and collaboration, and equity and justice.
