Sunset Sudbury School, a self-directed learning community, is South Florida’s first and only Sudbury model school. It is a non-profit, private school based on the principles of freedom, trust, and responsibility. Below are some quick facts about the school.
Location: We are moving to Fort Lauderdale in August 2015! Near Davie Blvd. and Andrews Ave.
Tuition: Yearly tuition is $7500 for the 1st child in a family, $5625 for the 2nd child, and $3750 for the 3rd child. There is a 10% discount for tuition paid in full at the beginning of the year. Part-time tuition for children under 6 years old is $4500 for the year.
Grades/Ages: Students ages 4 to 18 can attend. While we do not segregate students by age or any other characteristic, our students are in the traditional age ranges for kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school.
School Calendar: We will follow Broward County Public School calendar for the 2015/2016 school year.
School Hours: We are open Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 3:30pm. After-care is available to students from 3:30 to 6:00pm upon special request and arrangements made in advance.
Attendance Requirement: Students may arrive and leave school when they want provided they stay for at least five hours per day and maintain the following minimum weekly hours: 25 hours per week for ages 10 and above, 20 hours per week for ages 6 to 9, and 15 hours per week for ages 4 to 5.
Governance: Rules for day-to-day life are made by the community, where each student and staff member has one vote. All students serve periodic terms on the Judicial Committee, which deals with conflicts and rule violations.
Application: Applications for admission are accepted year-round.
Enrollment: Students can enroll any time during the school year, provided space is available. Enrollment is limited to 25 students.
Parent Involvement: Parents are welcome to volunteer their time and talents at the school through our formal volunteer program.
