Sunset Sudbury School, a self-directed learning school, is South Florida’s first and only Sudbury model school. It is a non-profit, private school based on the principles of freedom, trust, and responsibility. Below are some quick facts about the school.
Location: We are located at 4200 N.W. 66th Avenue, Davie, FL 33024 (just south of Stirling between Davie Rd and 441).
Tuition: Yearly tuition is set at $6600 for the 1st child in a family, $4950 for the 2nd child, and $3300 for the 3rd child. There is a 10% discount for tuition paid in full at the beginning of the year. Part-time tuition for children under 6 years old is $3960 for the year.
Grades/Ages: Students ages 4 to 18 can attend. While we do not segregate students by age or any other characteristic, our students are in the traditional age ranges for kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school.
School Calendar: We will follow Broward County Public School calendar for the 2012/2013 school year.
School Hours: We are open Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 3:30pm. After-care is available to students from 3:30 to 6:00pm upon special request and arrangements made in advance.
Attendance Requirement: Students may arrive and leave school when they want provided they stay for at least five hours per day and maintain the following minimum weekly hours: 25 hours per week for ages 10 and above, 20 hours per week for ages 6 to 9, and 15 hours per week for ages 4 to 5.
Governance: Rules for day-to-day life at the school are made by School Meeting, where each student and staff member has one vote. All students serve periodic terms on the Judicial Committee, which deals with rule violations. Parents, along with students and staff, comprise the Assembly which votes on large-scale decisions such as annual budget and candidates for graduation.
Application: Applications for admission are accepted year-round.
Enrollment: Students can enroll any time during the school year, provided space is available. Enrollment is limited to 20 students for the school’s second year (2012/2013).
Parent Involvement: Parents are welcome to volunteer their time and talents at the school through our formal volunteer program.
